We have a programme of continued investment in our sites to maximise efficiency, product quality and the service we can provide to our customers.
We are currently increasing our raw material storage capability at our Lifton Feed Mill, located on the Devon and Cornwall border. This will increase overall mill capacity and will enable improved formulation accuracy allowing for precision nutrition and improved cost control in our manufacturing processes. The project also brings many health and safety benefits as well as improving the environmental impact of the site.
The multi-million pound investment is a major civil construction project due for completion in spring 2023. The investment will see the current production capacity of mainly ruminant compound products increased by 20,000 tons per annum, allowing us to service more farms and meet customer demand more efficiently.
The construction phase of the project began in May 2022 and so far, the old building has been demolished with the substructure, all works below ground level and the foundations for both the new building and the new raw material bins completed.
The building steels are now in place and the transformation will continue over the coming weeks as the building takes shape, and the external claddings are added.
The main challenge for this project is that it is taking place on a fully working site, so construction must take place without impeding the current rate of production on site. It is a credit to the contractors and the Mole Valley Feed Solutions site team that disruption has been minimal, maintaining inbound and outbound activities whilst ensuring a comprehensive health and safety management and control plan is in place.
This project is an important part of our continued investment into the Mole Valley Farmers’ business and the agricultural industry, and we look forward to bringing you more updates in the months ahead.
